Stories Every time we work with a community, we are so touched by how eager and open the people are to our desire to connect with them. These are some of their words of appreciation: "When my sister died last spring during the birthing of her sixth baby, I cried for weeks and prayed to Allah that this would be the last one of my family to go into his hands this year. Then the women came to work with our village and teach us about too much blood after the baby comes. We learned that there are simple things to do to keep the spirits from taking a life away another time. Now I know how to help my sisters and our community has started to put money away for special emergencies when we need to get a mother to the clinic quickly." Fatima "Always in my village, the young girls went through the circumcision, me, my mother, my grandmother and now it was time for my daughter too. I was frightened, remembering the sounds coming from that place where this ceremony happened to my cousin's daughter. After the midwife from America came to talk with my people and then I talked to Rokhaya the woman doctor here, I knew that there could be a chance to keep my daughter's honor and not hurt her like I had been hurt and my mother and grandmother too. I am still afraid that my big sister will be angry with me, but my daughter will not fear me." Astou
James (husband to Linet, one of the Master Trainers said it all) "Linet is a new woman, you cannot believe the change in her, she is so respected by the village."

We suggested they make baby blankets for the clinic after Annie delivered a "Baby not Breathing" and had nothing but the grandmother's shawl to wrap the little blue guy in - (she got him going). We bought some fabric - did they make blankets? No, they made uniforms - to go with the handmade badges they fashioned out of the plastic sleeved templates we brought.
